welcome to a q&a with our featured artiste of the month.

kate has spared some time to have a good ol' chit chat with amaSing about her amaSing experience and whats shes been up to since.

read on to learn why she chose music over zoo keeping, the inspirations in her family and why she’s been listening to 'busted' recently, also what amaSing things we can look forward to from her in the future….

how was your experience at the amaSing 2013 festival?
i had a brilliant time! it's a really nice, chilled out festival. strathpeffer is a beautiful place.

who were your other favourite musicians at the festival?
i really enjoyed michael cassidy and eddi reader, both had cracking performances on the sunday night.

what have you been up to since amaSing 2013 ?

it's all been go go go since the festival. i have been writing, recording , gigging and had a few articles written about me in local and national papers (the scots magazine) which has been great. i played in central station for virgin trains and and network rails live at central programme. i've also recorded some live sessions in the ramshorn theatre (you can find this on amaSing's featured artiste page).
the plan is to record with barry "spad" reid at la chunky studios again courtesy of amaSing, thanks guys and release some singles this year. he did a brilliant job of my first single wave to the sky so I'm really looking forward to working with him again.

what made you pursue a career in music?

i love it! It sounds cliche, but this is what I'm meant to do. when i was younger i went through different phases of what I wanted to be, from an architect to a sound engineer (i was hoping for a z, like i was going through the alphabet of jobs, but i never wanted to be a zoo keeper) but then in 5th year it just felt silly not to do music. i think you should pursue whatever you're passionate about, why not eh?

who are your biggest inspirations?
my grandpa, he was such a funny, talented man. He was an after dinner speaker in his spare time and would tell hilarious stories intertwined with funny songs that he had written. the way that he could engage an audience and make them properly laugh out loud always amazed me. he worked hard in his career and was always the centre of attention at social gatherings. he was such a kind, generous, brilliant man. all my friends and family inspire me too. there's something about seeing other people when they talk about their passions or have passion in what they do that inspires me to do the same thing.

what was the last song you listened to?
i listen to the radio a lot, i think... (according to the radio one playlist) it was busted,' year 3000'. no joke. they were doing afeature of bands that have won at the brits. gutted it wasn't something cooler, i still found myself singing along though. *in a faux american accent* "not much has changed but they live under water..."

what advice would you give to upcoming musicians in scotland?
hone your craft, every aspect of it. strive to be the best that you can possibly be, but don't compare yourself to other similar musicians, you are unique. say yes to all opportunities that come your way, got myself some awesome gigs playing for other bands by doing that. talk to everyone and be friendly at gigs; performers, promoters, people who have come to watch you or their other pals play, that hipster on his own looking cool in the corner, you never know where a contact might lead (or they might just be really nice and you find yourself another pal, boom!). above all, have fun.

if a film was made about you, what would it be called?
get It dunn.
