excited? we are...

our featured artiste this month sienna are a six piece band who formed in 2012
all members originally for kinross, scotland. sienna is made up of
danny mcAtear, ross mathieson, andrew clarke, benjamin watt, calum anderson and ian dunnett.

they played a storm at amaSing last year with their strikeing sound and fantastic focus and energy with the audience.
amaSing were lucky enough to get a catch up with their lead vocals danny!

read on to learn why sienna's new single is promoting fun and fresh starts this summer, they're run in with an opera singer in a chip shop and they're thoughts on how to build great rapport with an audience...

-----------------------------------

how was your experience playing at amaSing festival?

last year was great fun! it was one of our first trips up north as the band. the north of scotland has always been a favourite place of mine. to get an  excuse to get up through the cairngorms keeps me happy, especially when we get to play to such an enthusiastic audience. we had a great laugh.

what have you been up to since and what can we expect from sienna this year?

it has been a good year, we took some time out over christmas due to various reasons. i find that when you are playing gigs week in week out you can forget to take a step back and listen to what you're saying. it was time for us to take a step back and concentrate on playing music we loved and to stop caring about selling ex amount of tickets for promoters that don't bother promoting. the love affair with music is back for sienna and to be honest we are sounding better than ever! the new songs seem to be a class above anything else we've done before. we can't wait for people to hear it! it's going to be a great summer.

how do you start your song writing process?

the process generally begins with myself (danny) writing a song and bringing it to the band.  here we work out the best vibe and take it as far as possible. sienna are a group of friends, people often forget this, so the horne* songwriting process is a fantastic one. most practices we learn at least one or two new songs as well as practicing the old ones. i don't really understand the whole idea of "writers block". it’s just an excuse for laziness. how come musicians can’t write about how hard writing a song can be!

we are beyond excited for you guys new single ‘wandering star’ can you tell us the inspo/ story behind this new track?

the new tracks a bit of fun. it's a song that's meant for summer, about shaking of the cobwebs of a tired relationship and starting afresh. theres nothing better and we've all been there!

we loved your video for ‘give me your love’ how was your experience filming it, did you have any gag reel moments?

it was our first video that we had done and we didn't have much to do with the process. i don't really understand the storyline if I'm honest but I love the shots in it and the scene in the chip shop was hilarious. it took me around 20 takes to simply look over my shoulder, meanwhile we discovered the man behind the frier was an opera singer! bizarre day…

the best story to do with gmyl has to be when a young girl about seven sang the words to me but instead of saying "but you keep messing it up" she sang "feel like a big monster truck"! i was speechless, looks like i could be out of a job soon!

you have an amazing energy on stage and really build a great rapport with the audience. what is your secret to this and advice you would give to other musicians?

enjoy it! stop trying to act cool or pose. i hate that. there is nothing worse than watching someone that doesn't want to be there, that's not my scene.

NO ONE is more important than the audience if you keep them entertained you just feed off their energy and the show keeps getting better! oh and don't get too drunk, believe me that doesn't work!

if sienna were a cast of characters on a tv show what would it be?

haha great question!

well everyone always comments on how we are a bunch of misfits so something like the Adams family would be cool.
